Valarie Jackson named President of Westfield Memorial Hospital

Westfield, NY. (July 23, 2018) – Westfield Memorial Hospital (WMH), part of the Allegheny Health Network, has named Valarie Jackson as its president, effective August 13.

Jackson has more than 25 years of experience in the health care field.

Prior to taking the top leadership position at WMH, Jackson served as Vice President of the Hospital Services Division at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital in Coudersport, Pa., where she was responsible for oversight of all clinical services and departments of the hospital, and for direction of all hospital based physicians of the emergency department, hospitalist service, anesthesiology, radiology, pathology and pain management programs.

At UPMC Cole, she implemented a revenue growth and fiscal management program for all areas of responsibility that contributed significantly to the hospital’s strong financial performance over the past 24 months.

From 2012 to 2015, Ms. Jackson served as Executive Director, Regional Operations for the UPMC Hamot Heart and Vascular Institute and Director of Regional Business Development and Telemedicine for Hamot.  In these roles she directed hospital and physician affiliations that enhanced the strategic growth of regional business activities for the hospital and provided operational leadership for all affiliated hospital and physician initiatives.

She also developed, implemented and coordinated a successful telemedicine network involving specialty physician groups, correctional institutions, and community hospitals

During a transitional period, she served in the capacity of  COO of Brooks Memorial Hospital and provided necessary interim CEO support.  There, Ms. Jackson led the implementation of a new documentation and coding program for the facility and established a hospitalist program that reduced patient outmigration and improved care coordination.

“Valarie Jackson is a highly skilled and accomplished health care leader whose commitment to excellence in the care of patients and their families will serve the people of Westfield and the surrounding region exceptionally well,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, president and CEO of Allegheny Health Network. “Valarie’s considerable experience in managing rural hospitals and her deep knowledge of the northwestern Pennsylvania and southwestern New York health care markets will be a tremendous asset to our organization as we continue to advance a closely integrated, patient-centered model of care that is unsurpassed in the experience, outcomes and value that it affords.”

Ms. Jackson earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology and Cardiac Rehabilitation from East Stroudsburg University.  She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

“The Westfield Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees is extremely pleased to welcome Valarie Jackson to our family,” said Helen Baran, WMH Board Chair. “Her leadership will be of immense value to all of the wonderful clinicians and caregivers at Westfield who work so hard every day to comfort and improve the health of our patients and all the communities we serve.”

Ms. Jackson was raised in Port Allegheny, Pa., and is now a resident of Fairview, Pa.  She is a musician and enjoys fitness and home renovation projects.
